May 12, 2014 is Fibromyalgia Awareness Day.  Throughout the month of May, the National Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Association (“NFCPA”) is planning a number of events to raise awareness about this pain disorder.  As a member of NFCPA, Attorney Norfleet would like to share some facts about Fibromyalgia:

  • Fibromyalgia is a complex pain disorder that affects an estimated 10 million Americans;
  • Fibromyalgia is a condition which appears to involve disordered central afferent processing;
  • The major symptoms of Fibromyalgia include:
  1. Chronic, widespread body pain;
  2. Moderate to severe fatigue;
  3. Sleep disorders and disturbances; and
  4. Problems with cognitive functioning and memory.While Fibromyalgia occurs most often in women, it also strikes men and children and all ethnic backgrounds.  Recent research has suggested a genetic component to Fibromyalgia and the disorder is often seen in families.

    Because there is no known cure for Fibromyalgia, treatment most often focuses on relieving symptoms and improving an individual’s level of functioning.

    The National Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Association (“NFCPA”) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to build a united patient and health care community to educate and execute advocacy programs for people suffering with chronic pain from Fibromylagia and overlapping conditions.  For more information on NFCPA, please visit their website at  http://www.fmcpaware.org.

    If you are disabled and suffer from Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or a similar pain disorder – you may be eligible for Social Security disability benefits.  For additional information about Social Security Disability Benefits or to discuss your potential claim, please contact Andy Norfleet for a free consultation.  He can be e mailed at [email protected], or reached by telephone at 717-737-7574.
